Good Morning Grade 2 Families,
First of all, please let me thank you for all the wonderful landform pictures you submitted in September. Although we can only choose five to put up on our Global Data Wiki, we appreciated (and examined) all of your fantastic pictures. We try to choose a variety of pictures to showcase our province's unique beauty. Our completed project for September can be found at http://data2makesenseofworld.wikispaces.com/Landforms+Canada
We have also completed our data component of the project, in which we collected our province's average monthly temperatures, precipitation amounts, and daylight hours. We then compared them to our global peers in Illinois, Alaska, Taiwan, Ireland, Australia, and Costa Rica. September's information can be found at http://data2makesenseofworld.wikispaces.com/Data+Collection
For a complete look at all of the states/provinces, and countries involved, please visit the Data 2 Make Sense of the World Wikispace at http://data2makesenseofworld.wikispaces.com/
Our October project looks at animals that are unique to New Brunswick. I'm sure this will be an activity that all the students will enjoy. Please submit (via email or hard copy) a picture or two of New Brunswick native animal species. We will follow the same procedure all year round, visiting every country's page and asking questions before answering our own. It should be quite interesting to compare NB's animals to other country's animals around the globe from various climates and habitats. We will continue to research, record, and interpret our monthly averages of temperatures, precipitation amounts, and daylight hours as well.
Just a few other notes:
- other upcoming monthly units in our Data Project include plants, food, celebrations, and transportation;
- we are beginning an exciting new project with another class from Australia today where we will be creating a fictional story together (partnered with global peers) using a very cool Web 2.0 tool called Storybird. www.storybird.com; and
- please feel free to email me at any time with any questions or comments you may have.
Thanks for your involvement with this enriching project, which helps us understand the world around us and become better conscious global citizens.
Mr. McGuire
